FAQs
-
What age group is suitable for these guitar lessons?
Lessons are designed for children between the ages of 5 and 18. I focus on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment for young beginners and intermediate students.
-
How much do the lessons cost?
Lessons cost $35 per session for the Home Studio “You come to me” lessons. I also offer in-home “I come to you” lessons for $55 per session. In-home lessons are a great option for busy parents or parents with multiple kids wanting guitar lessons back to back.
-
Do we need to bring our own guitar?
Yes, please bring your child's guitar to every lesson. Practicing their instrument will help them develop skills more effectively. Also, make sure to bring their lesson book and lesson plan for each class. Special treats and prizes are available for students who bring their lesson book and complete all their practice assignments ;)
-
How long are lessons?
Lessons are designed to take 30 minutes. Each of those 30 minutes is incredibly intentional, and that amount is best suited for students in this age category. Each lesson includes warm-up techniques, practice reviews from the following week, and advancements for the coming week.
-
Can parents sit in during the lessons?
While parents are welcome to observe, I suggest sitting in on only the first few lessons so that you can get a feel for what they are like. After that, I found that students often focus better without distractions. Please let me know if there are specific needs that I can help accommodate in our lessons.
-
Are there any additional materials required?
In addition to the guitar, your child will need a lesson book for jotting down notes and assignments (they get one on their first lesson). As well as their lesson book. Lesson books can be purchased at cost through me (Usually around $12-15)
-
How can I make payments?
Payments can be made with credit or debit cards or through Apple Pay/Venmo. Cash or check is fine as well. I will send out an invoice for each lesson slot at the beginning of the month for the coming lessons. See the cancelation FAQ if there is ever a time you need to cancel or book a makeup lesson.
-
What's the cancellation policy?
Think of lessons like a monthly subscription. When you book a lesson slot, it’s yours whether you can make the lesson or not. Suppose your student cannot make a lesson on a particular week; I offer regularly scheduled make-up days throughout the month for missed classes in person or on Zoom.
-
How do I sign up my child for lessons?
Signing up is simple! Click the “Book a lesson” button on the top right of the website and see what time slots are available. Shoot me a text or message to grab a time that works best for your student.
-
Is there a recital or performance opportunity?
Absolutely! We plan on having organized periodic recitals where your child can showcase their progress. Participation is optional but encouraged to boost confidence.
-
My student isn't homeschooled, but I'm still interested in lessons!
We now have lesson-scheduled slots during regular school hours (8 am - 3 pm). As Bakersfield Guitar Lessons expands, we expect to add additional time slots for those attending a traditional school in the afternoons. Please message me if this is you or sign up for our “interest list” to be notified when that happens.
